Framework made of Wire
First step is to make an armature (a structure or framework made of wire) and bulk up the form of your figure using aluminum foil. This process is the most critical step, so make sure the base is sturdy enough to support the weight of the whole figure.
Getting the profile of your subject or figure. Detail is not yet the focus on this stage. I would suggest to use your best tool, which is “your hand” it is a lot quicker.
Check the measurements of the figure. Make sure you have enough references of the figure. Provide photos from different angles of your subject.
This is the most time-consuming step of the process. For this project, it took me almost 3 days to make the eyes, nose, lips, ear, hair and wrinkles.
It is also important to take a step back and look at your sculpture to check for imperfections.
Adding the accessories on your figure. Dressing up your character adds personality and a story you are trying to convey.
For me this is the most fun part. If you have an airbrush that would be a lot better and quicker. But for me, I still don’t have it. I’m only using brushes and acrylic paint.
Retouching if needed. Appreciate your work for the effort. Don’t forget to take photos for your personal refrences, portfolio and documentations.
